Nepal earthquake triggers massive avalanche on Mount Everest

18 people have been confirmed dead in an avalanche that swept through the Mount Everest base camp in the wake of the Nepal earthquake that occurred on Saturday.

An aftershock struck the region early this morning, shaking even more buildings across India and Nepal and prompting fears for the hundreds of climbers who are still stranded on the world's highest peak.

More than 700 climbers are stranded on Mount Everest awaiting helicopters after the avalanche blocked off all access points.

They need to intensify and mobilise more rescue efforts
so they can airlift the climbers as soon as possible. Right now, even the body weight of the 700 climbers stuck somewhere on the Mount could trigger another avalanche 'cos right now they wouldn't know if they are sheltering on a weak plane..
