Child bride in Kano accused of murder set free

A High Court sitting in Gezawa on Tuesday, discharged and acquitted Wasila Tasiu, the 14-year-old girl who was charged for the murder of her late husband and 3 others.
The presiding judge in the ruling based on the formal application before the court from the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, says the “the case is hereby terminated and the accused is discharged”.
It can be recalled that Tasiu was 14, when she was given out to a 40-year-old Sani as a second wife.
The marriage reportedly lasted for 17 days. It has been alleged that Sani and his three friends were killed by the 14- year-old, after they took a lunch served with rat poison.
hortly after her husband was buried, Tasiu confessed to poisoning his meal.
While many had condemned her action, Tasiu’s lawyer, Hussaina Aliyu had risen to her defence, saying she was in a loveless marriage. Hussaina said, “Obviously, the marriage caused it, because she was scared of the marriage. She didn’t know what the marriage was all about.”

  1. Congrats to her.
